THE BIBLE - We believe the Bible, con- sisting of the Old and New Testament, lo be the only inspired, inerranl, infallible, authoritative Word of God v^/riltcn.

THE TRINITY -We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

THE LORD jESUS CHRIST We believe in the deity of Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

REDEMPTION - We believe that for salvation of lost and sinful man regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

THE HOLY SPIRIT - We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by Whose indwelling power and fullness the Christian is enabled to live a godly life in this present evil world.

THE RESURRECTION -We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

SPIRITUAL UNITY - We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in Christ.

Greetings in the name of our Risen and Coming Savior!

The 1979 Yearbook includes the addition of nearly all pertinent and available telephone numbers. There may be mistakes. If so, we apologize. Please notify the Conference Office at once.

Some people regard yearbooks as nothing more than stale collections of statistics. Our yearbook is much more. The various pages form a portrait, a mirror, or a window. We see diverse people, drawn together by the Lord through Biblical, Congregational principles.

Our Conference members are people "free to be ruled by God alone.'' By forming and maintaining an international association, we give expression to that freedom. Our fellowship helps us to perform the work of Christ: "evangelizing the World and edifying the Saints." We pray that you will find the 1979 Yearbook useful in this task.

The Rev. Gary Pollitt Conference Editor

George S. Buhl, President

In 1 Corinthians 12:12-27, the Apostle Paul gives a splendid illustration of the nature of our Conference and its relationships. Using the body as an example, our Conference is a ministry marked by a vital relationship between churches large and small, urban and rural, and men and women serving in numerous capacities under the headship of the Lord Jesus Christ and each incomplete without the other.

As we pray for each other, guided by our monthly Prayer Calendar, and as we meet each other at our Annual Meetings and regional gatherings, our identification with each other comes alive under the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

Therefore, we of the Conference leadership along with each of the ministers and churches of the Conference acknowledge Paul's admoni- tion: "For as the body is one and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. Now are ye the body of Christ and members in particular." (1 Cor. 12:12 (fe 27.)

CODE OF ETHICS

This Code of Ethics was adopted at the 29th Annual Meeting. OPENING STATEMENT

The Christian Minister, as he points men and women to Jesus Christ, must himself be a committed and exemplary illustration of the very things he says is expected of his flock. This, therefore, calls for standards which we believe to be commensurate with the Christian Ministry:

m MY OWN LIFE:

Remembering my first responsibiUty is to God . . .

I wiU always devote time to seeking the will of God through reading the

Scriptures and prayer. I will endeavor to keep myself physically and emotionally fit. I will consider the needs of my family as a sacred obligation before

God. I will seek in all ways to be Christlike in my attitude and conduct. I will be bibhcal in my preaching, presenting the whole counsel of God,

speaking the truth in love. I will strive to introduce men to Christ, and to build His church.

IN RELATION TO THE CHURCH:

Endeavoring to be a good shepherd of the church . . .

I will remember that I am called to lead, but also to serve.

I will never violate a confidence given to me.

I will be diligent in my duties as pastor, never lazy, but with God as my

judge. I will strive to develop leadership within my church and to involve them

with me in the conducting of the affairs of the church. I will prayerfully strive to keep the Lord Jesus Christ in the foreground

of my ministry, knowing that God will not share His glory with

another.

IN RELATION TO OTHER MINISTERS:

Seeking to be a brother in Christ to my fellow ministers of the

Gospel . . .

I will not seek to build my church at the expense of another church,

nor my ego at the expense of another minister. I wiQ not speak disparagingly of either my predecessor or my successor. I will refrain from pastoral contacts with former parishioners except

with the knowledge of the present pastor.

IN RELATION TO THE CONFERENCE:

Recognizing my duties to the larger fellowship of the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference, and being convinced of the purpose it fulfills in the Body of Christ, I will support it with personal participation, prayer and financial support as God enables me.

Board of Directors

Conservative Congregational Christian Conference

25W626 St. Charles Road

Wheaton, Illinois 60187

Gentlemen:

We have examined the statement of cash receipts and dis- bursements of Conservative Congregational Christian Conference as of December 31, 1978. Our examination was made in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards and, accordingly, included such tests of the accounting records and such other auditing procedures as we considered necessary in the circumstances.

As described in Note 1, the Conference's policy is to prepare its statement on the basis of cash receipts and disbursements; con- sequently, certain revenue is recognized when received rather than when earned, and certain expenses are recognized when paid rather than when the obligation is incurred. Accordingly, the accompanying statement is not intended to present financial position and results of operations in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles.

In our opinion, the accompanying statement of cash receipts emd disbursements presents fairly the recorded cash transactions of Conserva- tive Congregational Christian Conference for the year ended December 31, 1978, on the basis of accounting described in Note 1, which basis has been applied in a manner consistent with that of the preceding year.

Respectfully submitted,

Field Work Conpleted:

I have come to greatly appreciate the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference and its emphasis on the transforming power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through His Cross as the basis of our fellowship. It is refreshing to have brethren say:

"Though we may have many differences, which in the natural man would drive us apart, we accept you and love you because of our common bond in Christ."

In my experience, the fellowship of the CCCC comes closer to saying this and putting it into practice than any other national Christian fellowship I know.

CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS OF THE CONSERVATIVE CONGREGATIONAL CHRISTIAN CONFERENCE

1978

PREAMBLE

In gratitude to Almighty God for the gift of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ; and Believing that, to the glory of God, the task of the Church of Jesus Christ is two-fold, i.e., the evangelization of the world and the edification of the saints; and believing further that there is a definite need among congregationally governed churches of historic Biblical persuasion for an association to assist them in the performance of said task: We, therefore, as autonomous churches declaring our unquahfied behef in the entire Word of God written, humbly invoking the guidance of the Holy Spirit, have covenanted together to form such an association.

Article I - Name

The name of this organization shall be: THE CONSERVATIVE CONGREGATIONAL CHRISTIAN CONFERENCE, hereinafter called the Conference.

Article II - Purpose

1 . To deepen and extend the fellowship of our churches.

2. To encourage a steadfast, Biblical witness by our churches.

3. To facihtate co-operation and counsel among our churches with regard to evangehsm, edification, Christian education, stewardship, missions, church extension. Christian action, women's and men's fellowships, youth activities, the pastoral ministry, and other related concerns.

4. To preserve and promote the Scriptural principles of the autonomy of the local church and the freedom of the believer in Christ.

Article III - Statement of Faith

1. We believe the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testament, to be the only inspired, inerrant, infallible, authoritative Word of God written.

2. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

3. We beheve in the deity of Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

4. We beheve that for salvation of lost and sinful man regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

5. We beheve in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by Whose indwelling power and fullness the Christian is enabled to live a godly life in this present evil world.

6. We beheve in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

7. We beheve in the spiritual unity of all believers in Christ.

67

Article IV - Statement of Polity

1. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Head of His body, the Church universal, and of each local church.

2. We beUeve that each local church is in itself a complete church, and therefore autonomous and possesses all rights and responsibilities of the church by the Holy Spirit as set forth in the Holy Scriptures.

3. We believe that Jesus Christ exercises His authority in each local church by the Holy Spirit and through the Holy Scriptures.

4. We beheve that each local church is amenable only to Jesus Christ, and not to any association, conference, council, synod or any other ecclesiastical body.

5. We beUeve that it is proper and beneficial for each local church to seek fellowship and council of other such local churches.

Article V - Membership

1. Membership in this Conference shall be attained by the voluntary association of churches, ministers or individual laymen who find themselves in full accord with the Statement of Faith and Statement of Polity (Articles HI, IV) of this constitution, and with the general principles of this Conference as set forth in the constitution and by-laws. Conference membership, whether of church, minister or layman, may be subject to review by the ensuing annual meeting of the Conference. Ministerial membership shall be accorded on the basis of the approved ministerial standards of the Conference, as set forth in the by-laws of this constitution. Churches are not necessarily barred from membership because of other affiliations so long as they adhere to the Statement of Faith and the Statement of Polity and the workings of the Conference. Individual lay membership may be held only by members of Congregational Christian Churches which are not member churches of this Conference, or by members of other congregationally governed local churches which also are not members of this Conference. In the event that a non-member church joins this Conference, the individual lay membership of any of its members ceases.

2. A church, minister or individual lay member may withdraw from membership in this conference at any time by its or his own action, and will be removed from the membership roll when written notice of such action is given to the Chairman of the Credentials Committee.

3. In the event that there is received a written statement that a member church, minister or individual lay member has departed from the standards of faith and practice set forth in this Constitution and By-Laws, the Committee on Credentials shall make a careful investiga- tion of the matter. If the charge appears to the Committee to be justified, the Committee shall report the matter to the Conference for appropriate action. The Committee on Credentials shall file their report in writing with the Recording Secretary of this Conference and the party accused at least thirty days prior to the annual or special meeting at which the report is to be considered. The right to appeal to the Conference by the party accused is pre-supposed.

Article VI - Associated Relationships

1. The Conservative Congregational Christian Conference encour- ages the forming of local fellowships, conferences, or associations, of churches and ministers who are in accordance with Section 1 , Article V, of this constitution and who are in sympathy with the statements of faith and polity of this Conference.

68

Fellowships, conferences, or associations, whether state or area, may be recognized in this associated relationship upon request to and approval by the Credentials Committee. Such action will be subject to review by the ensuing annual meeting of the Conference.

Recognition by the Conference does not bestow membership in the National Conference upon churches or ministers of the respective groups; churches, ministers, or individual laymen, may attain voluntary membership according to Article V— Membership, of this constitution.
